Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy
Specimen Care - Ensuring for the Best Mount
Follow the below care instructions to ensure the best professional Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy mount.

Game Heads
The GFP guides you through the caping process:
Watch the entire packing process here:
-
Immediately take the hide and head to Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy by wrapping the hide in a plastic bag and dropping this off as quickly as possible.
-
If you will be unable to drop of the mount immediately, wrap the hide in a plastic bag (garbage bags work great), and freeze the hide immediately. Freezing the hide stops the growth of any bacteria that may be harmful to the hide. Hides that are not frozen immediately risk hair slippage and rot.
-
A good point to remember is you can never send Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy too much cape, however, it is possible to give too little cape. Any excess cape can be cut off and thrown away in the shop, but a cape with not enough hide cannot be stretched to fit the forms.
-
Once you have prepared your mount watch this video to decide the best pose for your trophy.

Life Size Mammals
-
Drop off your life size mammal immediately to Felhaus Trophey Taxidermy.
-
If you are not able to immediatley drop off your life size mammal call Felhaus Trophy Taxidermy for care instructions.
-
If the mammal is small and you are unable to immediatley drop off the speciman place the animal in a plastic bag and freeze your trophy until you are able to drop the speciman off to your taxidermist.

Birds
-
Broken or shot beaks, bills, feet, and bones are repairable. Missing, broken, or pin feathers ARE NOT REPAIRABLE.
-
To protect the bird's feathers: do not allow the dog to retrieve the bird, carry the bird by the feet, finally, do not put the bird in a vest nor a game carrier.
-
Place bird in fridge or shady cool place for a hour or two before freezing. Once the bird starts to stiffen fold head under a wing gently.
-
Place bird gently into a plastic bag and seal the bag, then double plastic bag the bird and seal the bag (do not use nylon nor paper bags this dries the bird).
-
Label bag with name, address, phone number, license number of hunter, sex and species of the bird and state that the bird was harvested.
-
Get the bird to Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy as soon as possible to help you decide the best pose for that bird.
-
If shipping the bird use a Styrofoam shipping cooler about twice the size of the bird and pack plastic bagged frozen bird in wadded newspaper or packing peanuts. Ship this through UPS to Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy.

Fish
-
Take one or two close up reference pictures of your trophy immediately after catching.
-
If possible place the fish you want mounted in a live well or bucket full of water by itself. By secluding the fish, you ensure that other fish do not cause damage to your trophy.
-
Avoid placing the fish on a stringer.
-
Handle the fish with care.
-
If you are unable to immediately drop off you fish - wrap the fish in wet towels or cloth, place the fish in a plastic bag or freezer paper, and freeze the fish.
-
Turn the fish into Feldhaus Trophy Taxidermy as soon as possible to ensure the best looking mount and to help you decide the best mount for the fish.
